To put this in perspective, on the [[Stanford Question Answering Dataset (SQuAD)]], a benchmark for evaluating reading comprehension, Claude 2 achieves an F1 score of 93.2, surpassing the 91.8 of the original Claude and approaching the human performance level of 95.0.[^2]
And in conversations with beta testers, Claude 2 received an average rating of 4.7 out of 5 for the helpfulness and coherence of its responses across a range of topics and tasks.[^3]

How to Sign Up for Claude 2 Access
Eager to experience Claude 2 for yourself? Here‘s how to get on the list for access:
- Go to claude.ai and click the "Sign Up" button in the top right corner.
- On the sign-up page, enter your email address and create a password. Anthropic uses OAuth verification to protect your account.
- Provide a few details about yourself and your intended use case(s) for Claude 2. This helps the team understand the diversity of the user base and prioritize access.
- Review and accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Some key points to be aware of:
- Claude 2 is currently free in beta, but Anthropic reserves the right to introduce usage limits and pricing in the future
- Your conversations with Claude may be used to improve the AI models, but are never shared publicly
- You maintain ownership of any inputs (prompts) you provide to Claude, while Anthropic owns the generated outputs
- Click "Join Waitlist" to submit your request. Look out for an email confirmation with next steps.
At the moment, access to the Claude 2 beta is being rolled out gradually to maintain a high-quality experience as the user base grows. The Anthropic team evaluates each request based on a combination of submission order, use case, and other factors.
Based on current capacity, most users can expect to receive an access invite within 2-4 weeks of signing up, though it may be slower or faster depending on demand. The team is working hard to expand availability and onboard users as efficiently as possible.
Creating Your Claude 2 Account
Once your access request is approved, you‘ll receive an email notification with a unique link to create your account. Be sure to click this link within 24 hours, as it will expire for security reasons. If you miss the window, just revisit claude.ai and click "Resend Invite."
On the account setup page, you‘ll be prompted to:
Verify your email address and set a permanent password. Choose a strong password and consider enabling two-factor authentication in your account settings for an extra layer of protection.
Provide a display name and optional profile picture. This is how you‘ll be identified to Claude in conversations. I recommend using your real first name or a consistent pseudonym to build rapport.
Update your use case information if anything has changed since you signed up. This is also a chance to opt in to receive product updates and share feedback with the Anthropic team.
Customize your notification settings. By default, you‘ll receive email notifications for major product updates and announcements. You can adjust these in your account settings at any time.
After completing these steps, click "Create Account" and you‘ll be dropped right into the Claude 2 chat interface, ready for your first conversation! The whole process only takes a few minutes.
One important note: Each access invite is valid for a single user and cannot be transferred or shared. Anthropic monitors for suspicious account activity and may disable accounts engaging in unauthorized access. So please keep your account details secure.
With your account created, logging in for subsequent sessions is a breeze. Just head to the claude.ai homepage and click "Sign In" at the top right.
On the login page, enter the email address and password associated with your account. You can check the "Remember me" box to stay signed in on your current device – just be cautious about doing this on shared devices.
If you forget your password at any point, click the "Forgot password?" link to reset it. You‘ll receive an email with instructions to create a new password and regain access to your account.
Once signed in, you‘ll land on the main Claude 2 dashboard. The interface is designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, with the main elements being:
Chat window: The heart of the app where your conversations with Claude take place. Claude‘s messages appear on the left in blue bubbles, while yours are on the right in green.
Text input: The field at the bottom of the chat window where you type your messages to Claude. Press Enter to send. There are also buttons here to upload images and files to share with Claude.
New chat button: Click the + icon at the top of the chat sidebar to start a new conversation. Your previous chats will be saved in the sidebar for easy access later.
Claude menu: Click the Claude logo in the top left for a dropdown menu with options to view your account settings, access help and resources, and log out.
Sidebar: Along the left side of the window, you‘ll see a list of your past conversations, which you can click to view or continue. You can also pin important conversations to the top of the list for quick access.
The basic flow of using Claude is straightforward – simply type a message, hit send, and await Claude‘s response. The real power lies in the breadth of what you can ask and the depth of Claude‘s responses.
Some ideas to get you started:
- Ask Claude to explain a complex topic in simple terms
- Have Claude analyze a passage of text and share its insights
- Get Claude‘s help brainstorming ideas for a creative project
- Collaborate with Claude to outline and draft an article or essay
- Practice a new language by conversing with Claude in that tongue
